Rossendale Round Table held its very popular Spice Night social evening on Thursday 9th June 2011. Tickets and a raffle raised £750 which was split equally between Rossendale Hospice, the Rossendale Rays and Tess Sullivan. A Sports Memorabilia Auction raised £685 for Tess Sullivan. You can see the photos from the evening on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/rossendale.
We were joined by 60 guests who had all come out to have a good time and support local causes. The evening was a massive success. Everyone had a fun night, the food was excellent and we were able to present our chosen causes with cheques for £250 each.
Paul Mulderigg Rossendale Rays Club Chairman thanked everyone for their donation and explained the Multi-Ability Swimming Club exists to provide water-based leisure activities for all its multi-ability members and their families from all areas of the local community.
Ron Hutchinson accepted a cheque on behalf of Rossendale Hospice and in thanking Round Table for their support explained that these are tough times for the Hospice movement and encouraged people to get involved in more fundraising for the hospice.
The most moving part of the evening was hearing Steve Sullivan talk about Tess. Steve from Huncoat was very emotional as he spoke holding a framed picture of Tess, “Tess is 4 years old and suffers from a condition called Alexander Disease which affects just 50 youngsters across the world. Your support tonight will make such a difference for Tess as we try to make her remaining years as happy as possible.” Alexander Disease is a rare genetic degenerative brain disorder which means Tess will lose her eyesight, the ability to chew and swallow and her mobility. |
